Gigiri, a close neighbor to Runda and Muthaiga, has been given 5-star rating by Hass. Separated from Nairobi city centre by the 2,500-acre Karura Forest and several low, wooded hills, Gigiri is a highly acclaimed secure neighborhood harboring the larger part of the diplomatic missions including the UNEP, World Food Program, US and Canadian Embassies. The area is also characterized by lavish homes with sprawling gardens, a few modern townhouses and beautiful guest houses. The Village Market, Warwick centre, Gigiri shopping centre provide good entertainment as well as necessities making Gigiri a self sufficient neighborhood. Roselyn Academy, German School and ISK (International School of Kenya) are closely located and are amongst the top schools in Nairobi.
Location: Approximately 10KM North of Nairobi's City Center.
Types of buildings: The area is characterized by lavish mansions/villas with sprawling gardens, a few modern townhouses and beautiful guest houses. There are no major apartments here. However, there are a few cottages and hotels like Tribe Hotel that can be found in the area.
Population Density: Low
Property Values/Trends: The area is popular with humanitarian workers and diplomats, drawn to the wide, leafy streets lined with impressive houses, all in one acre or more of landscaped gardens.
Area zoning for development: Gigiri is zone 3 residential area - a high end property area mainly for mansions. Although Gigiri is a residential area, it is also has offices especially those belonging to embassies, such as the American Embassy, the Canadian Embassy and the UN offices.
Security: Gigiri is a highly acclaimed secure neighborhood harboring the larger part of the diplomatic missions including the UNEP, World Food Program, US and Canadian Embassies.
Transport & road networks: The public transport links Gigiri and Runda with central Nairobi along the principal highway, Limuru Road. Matatus are available such as route 106 and 11C that are boarded in Tom Mboya St. in the town center. The roads are in good shape but once off into the residential areas public transport is scarce. A taxi to the city centre from the UN complex (7KM) is Kshs600. Owning a car is a bonus.
Hospitals: There are not too many major hospitals in Gigiri. However, Getrudes hospital in Muthaiga, is not too far from the Gigiri area. But The Nairobi Hospital has diagnostic laboratories through out the country including, the Gigiri Laboratory, located in the Warwick Medical Centre, Gigiri
Schools: Gigiri has up market schools and a college, which include; Roslyn Academy, German School and ISK (International School of Kenya). The Kenya Technical Teachers College – Gigiri
Shopping Centres & Amenities: The Warwick centre, Cafe Des Arts, and the Gigiri Shopping centre. The Village Market just west of the UN complex has a multi-screen cinema, restaurants, a food court, a supermarket and dozens of boutique shops. The Tribe Hotel next to the Village market completes the quite, leafy suburbs of Gigiri.
Places Of Worship: The nearby Karura Community Chapel. No mosques there.
